Mark is the Founder and Managing Partner of Defined. Investing in AI since 2014, companies he’s supported early have defined what’s possible across the frontiers of science and compute and created $20B+ in enterprise value - with multiple $1B+ companies.
A former operator and engineer, he is relentlessly focused on company building and works hand in hand with founders from inception to scale.
He serves on the boards of Foundation and Zyphra, two $1B+ companies building in robotics, foundation models and compute. His investments include D-Wave (NYSE: QBTS) - first quantum computer, GaN Systems (acq. Infineon) - pioneer in GaN semiconductors and Bit Stew Systems (acq. GE). He served on the boards of DarkVision (acq. Koch), Neurio (acq. Generac), Arteria AI and is an early investor in Mythic, Mueon, Quandri, and Variational AI. He is a two-time CVCA Deal of the Year winner for highest return.
Mark is a Kauffman Fellow and Co-Chair of the Kauffman Fellows AI Network, part of the leading global innovation network for venture capitalists, and a Venture Partner with Tribe Capital, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm with $2.4B AUM. He has been recognized as a Top Forty Under 40 and Top Thirty Under 30 business leader.
Mark’s global experience building technology companies - both as a venture capitalist and operator spans across strategy, product, go-to-market, and partnerships. Before founding Defined, he invested with BDC Capital, Telegraph Hill Capital, BP Ventures, and Bridges Ventures. Before venture, he led product and algorithms at Trucost (acq. S&P), helped launch the first public equities strategy at Inflection Point Capital, and began his career in engineering at Ferus (acq. EMG).
